Things to do
The village of Beer is located directly on the South West Coast Path, which is also known as the Salt Path, famous because of the best selling memoir by Raynor Winn, and the subject of a movie by the same name.
The village itself is described as picturesque, situated on the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The South West Coast Path offers stunning coastal walks around Beer, with routes leading to nearby Seaton and Branscombe. You'll find pubs and other amenities in Beer, making it a potential stop for refreshments along your walk.
The Salt Path (South West Coastal Path)

The South West Coast Path is a National Trail and the longest waymarked long-distance footpath in England, stretching a remarkable 630 miles (1,014 km). It traces the coastline of the South West Peninsula, starting in Minehead, Somerset, and winding its way along the coasts of North Devon, Cornwall, South Devon, and finally ending at Poole Harbour in Dorset.
Many people tackle the entire path over several weeks or even years, breaking it down into shorter sections. It's also hugely popular for day walks, with numerous circular routes and shorter stretches to explore. We're a SW Way Maker so why not use The Water Shed as your base to explore?
Surfing and water sports

South Devon offers a wide range of activities including coasteering, paddle boarding, kayaking, climbing, and mega-SUP. Equipment rental for paddle boards and kayaks is available at many of the major beaches.
The Water Shed offers the perfect base to experience the waters of the South Coast.
Food and drink

Not only does the south west offer some of the world’s best walking, it’s also a haven for foodies.
On your journey along the South West Coast Path, you’ll encounter traditional pubs, beachside cafés, delis, rooftop bars, pop-up street food vendors, Michelin star restaurants and everything in between. And if you’re looking to wet your whistle, we’ve got you covered there too. During your stay, why not try our exclusive Water Shed Beer!
Fossil Hunting

Fossil hunting for amateurs is a fantastic way to connect with the deep history of our planet and experience the thrill of discovery! It's essentially like a treasure hunt, but instead of gold, you're searching for remnants of ancient life preserved in rock.
Historic seaside towns

The Water Shed provides the perfect location to explore some of Devon's other historic sea side towns such as Seaton, Branscombe and Lyme Regis.
Beer Quarry Caves

The Beer Quarry Caves are a fascinating man-made underground complex. These vast caverns were created over approximately 2000 years of quarrying the distinctive Beer Stone, a fine-grained, creamy-grey limestone from the Cretaceous period (around 92 million years ago). From June-November, they are open for tours.
